Build Yourself a Toolbox — Be Ready to Share

Ever had a moment when you wanted to say something about your faith, but your mind went blank? You could almost feel the Holy Spirit nudging, but you just didn’t know where to start.

That’s exactly why every believer needs a Faith Conversation Toolbox — a little storehouse of verses, thoughts, and questions tucked in your heart, ready for when God opens a door.

At Sower To Sow, we believe faith-sharing doesn’t have to be complicated. You don’t have to memorize a script — just prepare, pray, and let the Spirit lead.

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” — 1 Peter 3:15 (KJV)

This isn’t about collecting fancy tools — it’s about being equipped when the Spirit says, “Now’s the time.”

How to Use This Toolbox

When those moments come — and they will — here’s a simple, Spirit-Led Flow to follow. Keep it natural, keep it real, and trust God to work through it.

1. Pray

Before you speak, pause. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead your heart and your mouth. He knows what the other person needs more than you do.

Try this:

  • Whisper a quick prayer before a conversation.
  • Ask God to give you compassion before courage.
  •  Remember — it’s not your performance; it’s His presence.

2. Ask

People open up when they feel respected, not preached at. Asking permission invites conversation instead of confrontation.

“Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt.” — Colossians 4:6 (KJV)

Simple starters:

  •  “Would you mind if I share something that helped me this week?”
  • “Can I tell you a verse that’s been on my heart?”
  • “I read something this morning that encouraged me — want to hear it?”

Small questions like these create space for big moments.

3. Plant a Seed

You don’t need to teach a sermon — just share one verse and one personal thought about why it matters to you.

“The seed is the Word of God.” — Luke 8:11 (KJV)

Example:“When I was anxious, this verse really helped me: ‘Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God’ (Philippians 4:6). It reminded me that I can give everything to Him.”

That’s it — one verse, one truth, one seed. God will handle the rest.

4. Share

If that seed goes well, share a real and personal story with them. We all find comfort in relating and hearing that someone understands or has been there.  This is where real relationships form. Be authentic.

5. Invite

So now don’t just drop a verse and walk away — invite the person closer to God. The next step doesn’t have to be big.

“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works.” — Hebrews 10:24 (KJV)

Next steps could be:

  • “Can I pray for you right now?”
  • “Would you like me to text that verse to you later?”
  • “We’d love to have you visit our church sometime.”

Even a small invitation can water the seed you planted.

6. Give to God

After you’ve shared, let go. You did your part. Don’t pressure or overthink. The harvest is His.

“But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.” — Luke 8:15 (KJV)

Remember:

  • You sow — God grows.
  • Your job is obedience, not outcome.
  • Seeds take time. Be patient, keep praying, and trust His timing.

Why Preparation Matters

Sometimes we think the Holy Spirit will just zap us with the perfect words — and He can — but often He draws from what we’ve already hidden in our hearts through scripture and preparation.

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” — Psalm 119:11 (KJV)

When you prepare your “toolbox,” you’re giving the Spirit something to work with. You’ll be amazed how He brings verses, stories, or ideas to mind at just the right time.

Keep your toolbox stocked with:

  • A few memorized or written verses.
  • Short personal stories of God’s faithfulness.
  • Encouraging phrases or questions that open doors.
  • A humble heart ready to obey.

Preparation doesn’t limit the Spirit — it positions you to move when He does.

Common Questions (Answered from a coach)

Q: What if I forget what to say?
It is totally ok to paraphrase and share the general meaning of what you are trying to get across. It is ok to say “I can’t remember the exact verse, but I’ll send it to you later.” That’s still sowing a seed!

Q: What if they don’t seem interested?
That’s okay. You planted the seed. Trust God to water it in His time. Afterwards, pray for that person and God’s will.

Q: What if I mess up my words?
God isn’t grading your grammar — He’s looking at your heart. The Spirit can translate imperfect words into perfect truth.

Q: How do I know it’s the right moment?
Pray and pay attention. If the Spirit prompts you, speak. If not, stay silent and pray quietly for God’s will.

“A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.” — Proverbs 16:9 (KJV)

Prepare the Tools, Then Let God Build

Every craftsman prepares before building. In the same way, every believer can gather spiritual “tools” to build faith through everyday conversations.

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed.” — 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)

You don’t have to have all the answers — just a willing heart and a ready toolbox. God will use what you have to reach who He loves.

May the Holy Spirit move in each of us to use everyday interactions to sow seeds of the gospel.
