New Habits for a New Year — Simple Ways to Live Your Faith Daily

The start of a new year often brings big goals and bold resolutions. But most of us know how quickly those fade. At Sower To Sow, we believe real, lasting growth doesn’t usually come from grand gestures—it comes from faithful, daily obedience. Small steps. Quiet faithfulness. One seed at a time.

Living out your faith doesn’t require a personality change, a platform, or a perfect routine. It starts with simple habits that invite God into your everyday life—your mornings, your conversations, your ordinary moments.

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” — Romans 10:17 (KJV)

As you step into this new year, consider trading pressure-filled resolutions for Spirit-led habits that help you read His Word, plant seeds of faith, and walk it out—right where you are.

Bible — Read His Word Daily

If there is one habit that shapes everything else, it’s this: Read your Bible. Just read. Not perfectly. Not impressively. Just faithfully.

God’s Word is living and active. The more time you spend in it, the more it shapes how you think, speak, and love. Whether you follow a plan or simply open Scripture each day, consistency matters more than method.

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” — Psalm 119:105 (KJV)

Simple ways to build this habit:

  • Read a portion of Scripture every day—even a few verses
  • Use one of Sower To Sow’s Bible reading plans
  • Read at the same time each day to build rhythm
  • Don’t rush—ask the Lord to teach you as you read

A Proverb a Day — Walk in Godly Wisdom

The book of Proverbs is overflowing with wisdom for everyday life—speech, work, relationships, discipline, and the heart. With 31 chapters, it’s perfectly suited for a simple daily habit.

Read the chapter that matches the day of the month. On shorter months, double up. Each time you return, you’ll notice something new—because God’s Word meets you where you are.

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.” — Proverbs 9:10 (KJV)

How to practice a Proverb-a-day habit:

  • Read the matching chapter each morning or evening
  • Highlight or note one verse that stands out
  • Ask how it applies to your current season
  • Revisit month after month and watch how the Spirit teaches you anew

Seeds — Write Scripture on Your Heart

God’s Word isn’t meant to stay on the page—it’s meant to be written on your heart. Memorizing Scripture anchors truth in your mind and brings it to remembrance when you need it most.

Memorizing just 1–2 verses a week adds up to 52–104 verses a year. Small effort. Eternal impact.

Use this downloadable Sower To Sow Memory worksheet or simply pick two a week through your Bible reading to memorize.

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” — Psalm 119:11 (KJV)

Ways to begin Scripture memory:

Seeds — The “Out of the Ordinary” Challenge

You may already serve faithfully—but this year, challenge yourself to plant two intentional, out-of-the-ordinary seeds each week. Quiet acts of obedience prompted by the Spirit.

“I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.” — 1 Corinthians 3:6 (KJV)

Ideas to try this challenge:

Offline — Start or Join Something That Matters

Faith was never meant to be lived only online. God works powerfully through presence—serving, gathering, walking alongside others - Do something Offline.

Maybe you’ve felt a nudge to join a Bible study… or start one. Maybe there’s a need in your neighborhood or church you keep noticing. Don’t ignore that seed.

“Let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works.” — Hebrews 10:24 (KJV)

Ways to live your faith offline this year:

  • Join or start a Bible study
  • Serve widows, neighbors, or families in need
  • Start a small group centered on prayer or Scripture
  • Say yes to the nudge—this is the year to nurture that seed
  • Read Offline Tools

Do More, Share Less — Serve Quietly

In a world that celebrates visibility, Scripture calls us to quiet obedience. Not everything God asks you to do is meant to be shared.

There is holy freedom in doing good and letting God be the only witness.

“But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth.” — Matthew 6:3 (KJV)

Practice hidden faithfulness:

  • Do good without posting about it
  • Resist the urge to explain or announce
  • Trust that God sees every act
  • Honor Him through obedience, not recognition

Closing Encouragement — One Seed at a Time

As this new year unfolds, remember: you don’t have to do everything. You’re simply called to be faithful with what’s in front of you.

Read His Word. Start where you are. Grow as He leads.

“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” — Philippians 1:6 (KJV)

At Sower To Sow, our mission is to encourage you and help you find simple ways to share God’s Word in everyday life.

One Seed At A Time.

May the Holy Spirit move in each of us to use everyday interactions to sow seeds of the gospel.
